How do I work?
I am an Integrative Counsellor which means that I draw upon a variety of approaches to tailor sessions to meet your specific needs. The foundation of my counselling work is Person-Centred which means that you decide the focus of the session and I help you to explore relevant issues and connect with your own inner resources. I aim to offer a therapeutic relationship which is supportive, free from judgement and optimistic. I also draw upon elements of Psychodynamic Counselling, Solution-Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Sometimes it can be useful to explore the links between current issues and early experiences, or to notice how unhelpful thinking and core beliefs may be holding you back.
Counselling doesn’t provide a ‘quick-fix’ to problems and I don’t offer advice as you are the expert on you. However, exploring the issues that are concerning you at your pace and within a safe environment can be extremely helpful. There may be times when you find it more helpful to use materials in a creative way to express yourself rather than speaking. There is never any pressure to do this.
